In this article, we examine the notion of the lived body in light of Paul Ricœur’s philosophy. The philosopher proposes a conception of the subject that integrates the body into the domain of thought, designating it as an essential part of an integral cogito. In this context, the body is conceived as the foundation of a fundamental alterity, and the reflection on the lived body involves elements such as affectivity, ethics, and notions of the voluntary and involuntary. We argue that the pursuit of an integral cogito, which encompasses the alliance between the subject and their body, is essential for the conscious adherence of the person to their place within the social body, enabling the individual both to root themselves and to expand in the world.
