We emphasize, briefly and elucidately, based on a literature review, the notions of aggression and violence in the context of Sigmund Freud’s work. We seek to understand the reasons why the notion of violence, unlike the notion of aggressiveness, did not acquire the status of a metapsychological concept. It is worth noting that it was from the use of these notions that Freud began to be concerned with and to elaborate the relations between psychoanalysis and culture. We therefore intend to demonstrate that psychoanalysis presents itself as an important contribution to the broadening of our understanding of the complex phenomena that involve aggression and violence.
