This paper presents a dispute over the interpretation of De Veritate I, 1, of Thomas Aquinas. First, it shows how the notion of transcendentals, particularly in this Aquinas text, is under competition. Following, it presents two other interpretations, one that understands De Veritate as dealing with the definition of truth, and the other that understands it dealing solely with the relation that truth has with human intellect. The paper presents elements that suggest a project for a doctrine of transcendentals in De Veritate I, 1.
