This article aims to reconstitute some elements of Nietzsche’s critique of ascetic ideals, in their complex relationship with concepts such as seriousness and intellectual probity. Considering the implication between art and philosophy, it is argued that Nietzsche develops a special kind of irony which, unlike the Socratic one, constitutes an expedient for a “maieutic of laughter”.Downloads
