Abstract

Ever since The Birth of Tragedy Nietzsche sketches out the theme of redemption in an affirmative perspective, especially by the means of art. Dionysus comes out as the first figure able to redeem man of suffering, once he could liberate the will to take on new formats in the process of Becoming. But it is on the last writings by Nietzsche that a philosophy of redemption becomes more consistent, as it articulates with the theme of the Transvaluation of Values. Our purpose in this article is to highlight such link between Redemption and Transvaluation of Values, as we mean to argue on the implication that seems to be the most fundamental, which is the ongoing need to think about the overcoming of mankind in an affirmative pitch, beyond the Christian project of human improvement.
