Abstract

The experiment was installed at Estação Experimental de Plantas Nativas do Cerrado e Exóticas Cultivadas, Universidade Federal de Goiás, situated in Porto Nacional, state of Tocantins. The seeds, object of this work, were caught from matrix trees placed in the University Campus, placed in Porto Nacional, on July, 1996. From the group of seeds obtained in this way, samples of pure seeds were separated and subjected to these treatments: witness; water in air temperature during 48 hours; water at 100°C (without giving continuity to the heating) for 24 hours; sulfuric acid (H2SO4) P.A. during 06, 10, 14, l8 and 22 minutes, using one part of acid for two parts of seeds. After the treatment with H2SO4, seeds were washed with running water and revolved with glass spindle during 10 minutes and dried on paper on shadow. After these treatments, 04 replications of 25 seeds were sowed in polyethylene trays, where the cells were filled with soil from the sub-earth, sterilized at 180°C for 20 minutes. During 30 days daily countings of the normal seedlings were effectuated. In this period the following parameters were evaluated: growth speed, first count and emergence. The experimental delineament used was entirely randomized, with 04 replications. Considering the statistic analysis from the data originated by the experiment, it was possible to conclude that from all treatments tested, the immersion of the seeds in H2SO4 for 22 minutes was the one that showed the greatest and the most rapid plant emergence.
