Abstract

The objective of this study was to verify the occurrence of the species of Figitidae in cattle dung, and in the area of native vegetation. The experiment was undertaken in Itumbiara, GO. Five samples of bovine dung, approximately 8 days old, were collected at two weeks intervals and placed in plastic container. In the laboratory the pupae were extracted from the bovine dung by method of flotation of Spiller (1966) and individually placed in gelatin capsules until the emergence of the adult flies or their parasitoids. In addition, weekly collections were done using 10 yellow buckets measuring about 30 cm in diameter, 12 cm in high and filled with 2 liters water, 2 ml of detergent and 2 ml of formaldehyde. Five buckets were placed at the pastures and 5 in the native vegetation. From January to December 1998, four specimen of Acanthaegilipis brasiliensis and one exemplar of Neralsia splendens were collected in the yellow buckets while in the dung 14 of N. splendens were collected from 4,521 pupae of Sarcophagula occidua. The percentage of parasitism was 0.30%.
