Keywords:
Gossipol, mice, bloodAbstract
Twenty thirty day-old male mice weighing 25 g were divided in two groups: Group 1: oral saline solution (control), and Group 2: oral gossipol acetic-acid at 20 mg/kg. Forty days after treatments and leukocytes were counted through Newbawer counting chamber. Leukometry showed 9,241 leukocytes/mm3 for the control and 6,125 leukocytes/mm3 for the gossipol treated group (significant difference for P=0.05). Erythrometry showed 6,596,000 erythrocytes/mm3 and 6,399,000 erythrocytes/mm3 for control and gossipol treated mice, respectively. It was concluded that gossipol may induce a deleterious effect on the organism defense cells.
