MATHEMATICAL APPROACH APPLIED TO SUGARCANE HARVESTING WITH EMPHASIS ON MAXIMIZATION OF SUGAR RECOVERY
Keywords:
Mathematical program, sugarmill, sucrose optimizationAbstract
Using a mathematical program, a simulation of sugarcane harvesting was carried out in a Brazilian sugarmill in the 1998/ 1999 growing season. Results showed the possibility feasibility to obtain a 6.5% gain on sugar recovery per area in comparison with traditional planning, consisting on personal judgement of factors as sugarcane age, sugar content, variety maturation curve and others. The overall field planning also allows for personal intervinience for promoting necessary adaptations and simulations in the growing areas, as well as other sugarcane field management problems. The variable which is maximized is the sugar production per harvested area, that is, the interaction of sugarcane productivity t.ha-1) and sugar content (Pol%Cane), throughout the harvesting eason. The fields were preferentially selected for harvesting according more to the sugarcane growing potential than sugar ontent.
