Abstract

The objective of this study was to compare some physical and chemical attributes of a dystrophic Oxisol under reclaimed and degraded pastures. Two areas of savannah soils around Goiânia, Goiás State, Brazil, were selected, one under reclaimed and other under degraded pasture. The degraded area was being submitted to an extensive grazing regime, and the reclaimed area, to intensive crop cultivation for two years. Higher values of pH, Ca+2+ Mg+2, P, K+, Zn, organic matter, macroporosity, total porosity, linear root density, average root diameter, and lower values of bulk density and soil resistance to penetration were observed in the soil under reclaimed pasture.

KEY-WORDS: Brachiaria brizantha; Brazilian savannah; soil ertility; soil physics; degraded soil; root system.
