NEGATIVE EXPERIMENTAL EFFECTS OF BROADBEAN (Dimorphandra mollis BENTH) BEAN AS CAUSE OF ABORTION IN BOVINES
Abstract
The pods of the “faveira” tree, Dimorphandra mollis Benth, were given orally to three groups of three pregnant cows each. The period of pregnancy were around 90, 150 and 210 days. The cows received 10 to 12 g/kg of the poas per kg body weight, to see if the plant causes abortion. None of the cows aborted, but all the cows which have ingested 12 g of the pods per kg body weight showed symptoms of poisoning and two of them died.
