In order to identify the best varieties, concerning growing performance and the local consumer’s preference, it was made a competition testing the following varieties: Babá, White Boston, Cazard, Grand Rápids, Great Lakes, Miracle Voorburg and Romaine lettuce (Cos). It was determined the weight of the edible part of the plant, earliness, head formation and commercial acceptance. Great Lakes ranked best regarding head formation and weight, followed by Cazard which seems the most promising because of its butter head appearance.
