BEHAVIOR OF SOME DUTCH POTATO CULTIVARS IN GOIÂNIA, BRAZIL, DURING 1973 AND 1974
Abstract
Development and yield of the Dutch potato cultivars Bintje, Jaerla, Marijke, Patrones, Radosa and Spunta were investigated in the cool season, from the end of February to the beginning of June in 1973 and 1974, in Goiânia, Brazil (16° 41’ S latitude,700 m elevation). The trials were conducted by the department of Horticulture of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine of the Federal University of Goiás - Goiânia. Concerning total yield of both trials, Spunta was the most productive cultivar and Jaerla, the less productive. Spunta and Patrones ranked first in yielding big tubers, over 50 mm in diameter with an average weight over 140 g. Jaerla showed to be significantly earlier than the other cultivars and less productive. Spunta was the first to emerge and developed strong, dark green foliage. This cultivar seemed to be less susceptible to bacterial wilt, which occurred in 1974.
