El regreso a la escuela desde la perspectiva de adolescentes sobrevivientes de cáncer: un análisis cualitativo

Objetivos: comprender la dinámica del regreso a la escuela desde la perspectiva de adolescentes sobrevivientes de cáncer. Métodos: investigación cualitativa que utilizó como referencia el interaccionismo simbólico. Participaron en el estudio 14 adolescentes, sobrevivientes de cáncer, en tratamiento ambulatorio en un hospital especializado en el área de cáncer infantil y juvenil, en la ciudad de São Paulo. Se utilizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, y el análisis temático fue empleado para analizar los datos. Resultados: se identificaron cuatro temas: No contar que se tuvo cáncer; Sufrir acoso escolar; Enfrentar el prejuicio; y Buscar la normalidad. Los adolescentes sobrevivientes de cáncer enfrentan una serie de retos personales después de terminar el tratamiento, incluyendo el regreso a la escuela, debido a algunas dificultades generadas por el prejuicio, ya sea por su apariencia física o por el estigma de la enfermedad. Conclusiones: la dinámica del regreso a la escuela desde la perspectiva de los adolescentes revela una mezcla entre las dificultades enfrentadas, las estrategias de adaptación y la búsqueda de seguir con la vida como los demás.
