Contributions of the extracurricular stage to professional competences: perceptions of nurses in a public hospital

This study aimed to describe and analyze how nurses in a public hospital in Belo Horizonte (MG) perceive the contributions, ideal (desired) and actual (effective), of the extracurricular stage in the process of formation and development of professional competences of Nursing students, due to its importance in the academic and professional formation during the such educational process. In the descriptive and quantitative approach field research, data were collected through a questionnaire given to 65 nurses who guide the students during extracurricular stage. The results showed that, from the standpoint of the ideal, as well from the real, this type of stage has contributed to the formation of the students. However, some identified points of discrepancy require attention by all stakeholders: State, educational institutions, hospitals, students and nurses who guide them.
