Alcoholism and the Brazilian nursing: an analysis of 10 years

This is a documentary research, in order to reflect on alcoholism as object of knowledge of Brazilian nursing from 1977 to 2007. The source of research was the bank of thesis and dissertations of the Brazilian Nursing Association where 43 researches were identified. The data analysis had two steps: firs the researches were characterized, and then data obtained were organized in the following thematic categories: the imaginary about alcoholism, alcohol and adolescents, the treatment of alcoholism, alcoholism in women. The study provided the knowledge on the aspects of psychosocial context of alcoholism, so important and necessary in order to look more closely the care provided to alcoholics in health services in Brazil.
