Mental disease perceptions for psychotic people relatives

This study has had as aim to know the people's psychosis bearers’ relatives' perceptions, about mental disorders. To get this objective, a qualitative inquiry, descriptive and exploratory case study was opted. The subject of the study was six families of people of psychotic person, attended in a hospital or residing at the Institute Cyro Martins - Therapeutic Home of Porto Alegre (RS). To colleting data we accomplished contact with the relatives’ phone or personally, at hospital visitation scheduled time. Once we got the acceptation to participate in the research, it was scheduled a place and time for interviewing. For data obtaining we used the semi-structured interview, which speeches were recorded and fully transcript. The field diary was also used for observed information registrations, when some information at the interviewing time was not obtained. To the data analysis, we used the methodological proposal of MINAYO (2001), constituted by ordination and classification of the dates and final analysis. The research project was approved by the Committee of Ethics in Regional the University of the Northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. From the reading of the material collected in the empiric field of the research, the information was contained in an analysis category approaching the conception of mental disease, considering the similarity and diversity of the obtained information. The subjects were positioned characterizing the mental disease the pathology oppressing, capable to causes impotence, an upset of the head; the pathology that affects the family structures, an endogenous evil; the badly of the nerves; the problem of social character; the synonym of incapacity and the disease that makes the person to be out of the reality and loose their own personality. Starting from this inquiry, we noticed the importance of attending the relatives that accompany the psychotic mental patient, during your treatment.
