Abstract

This research describes the social, economic and cultural conditions of the informal caregivers of old people without self-care from the Family Health Program. Nine informal caretakers of the North Region Program - Jardim Guanabara III - Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, were studied during October and November, 2001. The results show that they are women (wives, daughters, granddaughters and neighbors), who are 18-67 years old and they are to be worth 1 to 7 Brazilian minimal salary (U$ 80,00) per month. The most people have between first and second degree of high school. These are important to know because the professionals (doctors and nurses) can plain good programs to old people.
