The job of the community health worker on the health promotion perspective: praxis considerations

Abstract

The Community Health worker (CHW) is a newly inserted professional in the health staff and considering his inclusion in the community is expected to occur his performance based on Health Promotion. This paper aims to discuss the actions taken by the Community health worker. This reflection came from the theoretical and practical experience of the authors among these health professionals. It was possible to see that the CHW performs few activities for Health Promotion and almost none of these builds on the empowerment of the population, after all his actions show aimed at disease prevention. The main allocation referred to this work is to be the link between community and service. Somehow, this professional flexnerian training may be contributing to this hygienist and a little liberating practice. We concluded that it is necessary to rethink the supervision of the work with this professional review the concepts of health and illness of the whole team.
