Abstract

The Hematopoetic Stem Cell Transplantation is very complex and demands a specialized nursing assistance. Therefore this text has a clear goal which is to describe in reflexive way the nursing practice inside the hematopoetic stem cell transplantation setting. The role of the nurse in the area is essential and it involves a lot of responsability for caring and it includes support to the patients and their families during the transplant, as well as the recovering period by monitoring and analyzing the transplant recipient's condition. The nurse also prevents adverse events and carries out many kinds of therapeutic intervention. Main member of multiprofessional team, the nurse works with other professionals joining experience and knowledge to benefit the patients and the families. The nursing care developed in the HSCT is total and it is centered in the patient needs, searching for individualized, competent and complete care.
