The relation between the life style and the tobacco smoking among nursing students

The article discusses the relation of the life style and smoking among university students of nursing identifying the causes and the existence of some kind of influence of tobacco in these universities future. Descriptive qualitative study conducted in 2007 with thirteen academic subjects as volunteers smokers between twenty and thirty-six years old from courses at the “Estácio de Sá University” and “Federal Fluminense University”. In order to it was applied a questionnaire with open questions. In the data analyzing using the analysis of the content of which arose three categories: Denial of the term 'addiction'; the cigarette as a reducer of stress and Future of smokers’ health care professional. All university students surveyed deny that they are addicted to tobacco and not allow thoughts of abandonment and abstinence syndrome are related to the habit of smoking. A group of students don’t assign to the cigarette influence on their future, on the other hand, another group believes that a health professional should be concerned with the later consequences the cigarette. It was concluded that tobacco serves as a strong reducer of stress generated by activities and by the lifestyle of academics assuming importance in the integration of these in their social group.
