Abstract

The health surveillance service, similar to nursing, has its origin justified by the worries with people’s health. Despite of being quite relevant the nurse contribution for the health surveillance service, this service keeps less known by the nursery professionals of the area. This study has the purpose to show the context of the health surveillance service while possibility in nursery care, contributing to the visualization of this service as an acting field of community health nursing. For all that, it was opted by the use of study case methods as qualitative approach. The subjects are those nurses that work in the health surveillance service department – Goiânia, as Public Health Inspectors. The study was been made in the period of November/2005 to November/2006. The collected data were worked using the content analyses proposed by Bardin, in order to identify the “matter nucleus” present in people’s communication. The results evidence that the comprehension of the meaning care at nursing, the identification of this care at the health surveillance service and the construction of the nurse professional identity who acts in this service keep a narrow relation and are intimately related to the academic and professional formation of the nurse. Professionals as referring to previous experience in the Public Health area, identifying easily the nursing care in the health surveillance service, due to of collective character of this service.
