Abstract

This is a bibliographical research, descriptive and exploratory that aims to analyze the scientific literature about labor pain indexed in two bases of the Virtual Health Library, from 1980 to 2007. The Key-words as pain, parturition, parturition pain, birth, maternity, culture, control and alleviation was crossed in references search. It was opted to access abstracts for analysis. The data classification of the identified citations had been done in a previously established protocol. From 30 identified references, 25 (83.33%) are original articles, review or update; 3 (10%) are doctoral thesis and 2 (6,67%) master dissertations. The abstract content focuses has been divided by themes as “living the painful process and the parturition”; “alternative and non-pharmacological assistance methods”; “effects of the used pharmacies in normal parturition analgesia”. From analysis is possible to observe the contribution of the scientific research about this theme in detach to the relevance to rescue the normal parturition culture and the importance of the management of the pain seeking to security and satisfaction women in the parturition process.
