Profile of colostomized clients enrolled in program of attention to the ostomized

The experience of having a colostomy leads people to live al kind of situations. The purpose of this descriptive study, exploratory, in a quantitative nature, was to identify the colostomized patient profile, enrolled in the Ostomized Help Program - OHP, of the 15ª Regional Health of Paraná state. The levy was realized in May of 2007 and was considered the space of time the records inscribed in the OHP of January of 2003 to May of 2007. The profile was characterized according to demographics data, illness base that led up to the stoma, type of device, treatment and time of use of the collector device. The study results allowed taking epidemiological data of importance for future interventions as prevention campaigns, diagnosis and early treatment, as well as the knowledge of the structure of the existing professional service and information needs of the patients’ families. The definition of patients profile besides to contribute to the care improvement also allows the establishment of new proposals for improving the patients and families quality of life.
