ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to understand men’s perception towards female climacteric. This descriptive, qualitative study was performed with ten partners of women undergoing climacteric. Data collection was performed through interviews, and then submitted to content analysis. The material was grouped into an analysis category, stating the changes that took place in the women’s lives from their partner’s perception. The men identified clinical symptoms related to the loss of libido, irritability and hot flashes. They have mentioned that the conjugal relationship is preserved, but they recognize their small tolerance towards the effects of the climacteric symptoms on their wives. Nurses must intervene in the sense of providing men with guidance regarding the physiological and psychological changes that their wives experience due to climacteric, so they (men) can understand the situation and learn how to deal with it.
