Abstract

ABSTRACT

The processes of quality certification are important for health organizations to perform a systemized evaluation of their actions. The objective of the present study was to understand the meaning of the hospital accreditation process for nurses of a state public hospital, who experience this practice. This descriptive and exploratory qualitative study. The statements of twenty nurses were analyzed, and revealed two central themes: Accreditation and the nursing working process, and The Process of Hospital Accreditation. The results revealed that nurses consider that the accreditation process mobilizes changes. Being involved with the hospital accreditation process at the institution stimulates the development of the nursing working process. In conclusion, through this process nurses improve their management skills, creating indicators and data, thus providing workers with tools that are indispensible to deliver quality care to patients.
