The present exploratory-descriptive study, using a qualitative approach, was performed with an interdisciplinary team that provides palliative care to cancer patients in a public institution in southern Brazil. The objective of the study was to identify the influence of interdisciplinary practice on the organization of nursing work. Data collection was performed using semi-structured interviews with fourteen professionals (several categories), systematic observation, and a documental study. Results showed that the interdisciplinary perspective promotes participation in the decision-making process; contributes with the integration of actions performed by the various professionals and by the group of nursing professionals; and promotes the valorization of the work performed by the team members, thus helping to reduce internal conflicts in nursing, which has the potential to improve the care provided to the clients. In conclusion, the guiding principles of interdisciplinarity contribute with the reorganization of nursing work from a more collaborative, satisfactory, and integrating perspective.
