Quality of life of elderly patients with and without hypertension

The study aimed to describe and compare the quality of life (QOL) scores of elderly without arterial hypertension (AH) based on WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD. It was constituted two elderly groups: one with referred AH (689) and other with no referred AH (689). Data was collected from august to November, 2008 and descriptively analyzed and t-Student (p < 0.05). Women 60|-70 predominate, married, income of a minimum Brazilian salary and 4|-7 of comorbidities. It was observed higher QOL scores in social relationship and functioning of senses; and low in physical and autonomy. The group without AH had had higher QOL scores for environment, past activities, present and future and social participation if compared to the group of with AH elderly. It is necessary to adopt interrelated activities between the health professional team and the community aiming health promotion that results low impact on QOL of the elderly people.
