The objective of this article is to problematize the research about the process of expansion
of capoeira outside Brazil. Based on a thesis on the practice of capoeira in France and the
United Kingdom, this paper questions the specificities of the study of the practice of capoeira
in its process of transnationalization. The challenges faced by the researcher in relation to the
insertion in the field and difficulties related to the mastery of the language in carrying out
interviews and transcriptions are highlighted. The application of the multi-sited or translocal
ethnography method is debated, reflecting on the need to take into account, in addition to
the different geographical locations, the insertion of the researcher into the virtual spaces of
the social networks of the internet groups. It is pointed out the need to take into account the
question of the national contexts where the individuals and groups studied circulate.
