Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Articles should be between 50,000 and 70,000 characters with spaces (including bibliography, tables and diagrams), and book reviews, up to 15,000 characters with spaces;
  • The text is in A4 format, 1.5 spacing, 12 point Times New Roman font, 1.5 cm paragraph, with figures and tables inserted in the text, and it does not use spaces to align tables, only the tab;
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal;
  • Submission files are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format;
  • Quotes should be in body 10, with indent of 1.5 cm; abstracts in English, Portuguese and Spanish in body 9; bibliographic notes and references, body 10; title, body 16; and subtitle, body 14;
  • The identification of authorship of the work has been removed from the file and the "Properties" option in Word, thus ensuring the journal's confidentiality criteria, if submitted for peer review. If the authors themselves are quoted, the word "Author" and year are used in the bibliography and footnotes, rather than author name, document Title, etc.;
  • When submitting an article, authors must identify their title and affiliation on the registration form. The title required for publication as the first author of a paper is a doctorate, being accepted the co-authorship of masters. For reviews, MS students are allowed to be authors. The journal publishes articles with a maximum of four authors;
  • All authors must have an ORCID registration. To register, the website is https://orcid.org/. Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a permanent digital identifier for an author, as well as DOI is for a digital document.

Author Guidelines

1. Presentation

Sociedade e Cultura - Journal of Research and Debate in the Social Sciences is published by the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais of the Universidade Federal de Goiás and its graduate programs in Social Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology. From 2020 onwards it has been published on continuous flow.

2. Editorial Scope

2.1. Categories of papers that can be published

The journal accepts original and unpublished submissions of articles and reviews in social sciences. Occasionally, translations and interviews may be published.

Sociedade e Cultura publishes in Spanish or English as long as the paper has not been published elsewhere.

2.2. Evaluation of the papers

The editorial board is responsible for the decision about publication. Papers that do not follow the scope and the guidelines of the periodical will not be accepted. Those that follow the guidelines will be sent to two external reviewers following the double blind review system in which the identities of both the authors and the reviewers are omitted.

The reviewers may suggest the paper be:

a) published in its original format;

b) published after revisions;

c) re-submitted for a new evaluation after the paper has gone through substantial modification;

d) refused for publication.

No additions or modifications will be accepted after the papers have been handed in for the final composition.

2.3. Rights and responsibilities of the authors

On submitting the paper the authors assign their copyright to Sociedade e Cultura. The periodical is not obligated to return the received papers. The statements and concepts in the papers are the responsibility of the respective authors.
