Abstract

Creative tourism has been studied as an emerging market niche within cultural tourism, its growth has allowed the scientific community in the world to address this phenomenon from different subjects. Despite its recent growth and inclusion as hot topic in the current scenario, the extent of its reach is still unknown. This research aims to map the existing on creative tourism in Brazil, their profile and their main characteristics, obstacles and avenues of research. The methodology was based on bibliometric analysis applied to 5 main Brazilian databases on tourism and adjacent areas: 1) Portal de Publicações de Turismo, 2) Portal Scientific Periodicals Electronic Library (SPELL), 3) Portal Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo); 4) Portal de Periódicos Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) y 5) Proceedings of Encontro Nacional da Associação Nacional de Programas de Pos-graduação em Administração (ENANPAD), from which 45 documents have been recovered representing research related to the search term "creative tourism" in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The data were analyzed and described according to a proper protocol established for this purpose, generated from similar bibliometric studies. It is concluded that, despite the recent visibility of the phenomenon, the overall volume of studies on the subject is still very limited, a lack of research that studies creative tourism from the perspective of visitors is related. It also recognizes the existence of research that relates the tourism studied with local development, planning of tourist destinations, sustainable development and the flexibility of creative tourism to be adapted to other niches of the tourism market.
