Abstract

This article aims to analyze the historical process that gave rise to the tourism policy in the state of Goiás. The research main time frame is from 1961 to 1990, which is a period not sufficiently studied in Goiás literature. The research is based on an inventory of Goiás tourism legislation, analysis of government plans for the period studied, and mapping of most relevant actions of each governor that contributed to tourism development in the state. The results showed that the state government played a key role in the promotion of tourism since the 1960s, when crucial measures began to be taken in order to institutionalize the sector, and when concrete actions were orchestrated by a group of cities, which resulted in making them the main tourist destinations in Goiás.
Keywords: tourism policy, institutionalization, state of Goiás.
