Abstract

In Brazil, municipal districts are designed as legally aimed for administrative purposes. Goiás currently has 71 districts spread in 45 municipalities. This paper aims to understand the territorial sense of these places from official definitions and theoretical approaches. So, we analyzed the relevant legislation and, from the secondary data measurement, we presented a spatial and demographic landscape of these districts in Goiás. We also analyzed villages and their peculiar features, like day by day activities, services, and involvement in urban
network.

Key words: district, village, territorial unit.
