Abstract

This text is a reflection on the knowledge, practices, techniques and lifestyle of Goiano peasants, and their peculiar features in relation to the urban lifestyle. The object of analysis is composed of two constituents of rustic life: their forms of both work and leisure. The theoretical foundations for the analysis of their everyday life, knowledge and techniques are basically anthropological, as our object is inserted in culture and, as such, it has a strong local component. The results have shown that this lifestyle has been under the decisive influence of the process of modernization of the countryside and, therefore, the cultural sustainability of this lifestyle and its traditions proves itself as a fruitful discussion topic.
