Abstract

The present study aims at demonstrating the importance of atmospheric systems in the climate type constitution in Sergipe state, as well as how the distribution of these systems occurs. We used monthly rainfall data from Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste (Northeast Development Superintendence) – SUDENE
historical series. These data average was calculated by The Atmospheric Science Department of Campina Grande Federal University. The duration of the dry season was calculated based on Gaussen and Bagnouls’s xerothermic index. Thematic maps were produced using data from SUDENE in addition to Geographic Information
System software. The rainfall regime and duration of the rainy season in Sergipe state vary according to season and geographical location. The precipitation rate is distributed in descending order from the state coast to the interior, showing the effect of continentality on the distribution of rainfall, evidenced in thematic maps.
Key words: regional climatology, northeast climatology, climate of Sergipe.
