Abstract

The National Program of Agro energy (2006-2011) opened possibilities for installation of new agroindustry sugar cane in Goiás, promoting the expansion of sugarcane cultivation in the State. The article aims to examine the main social and environmental impacts of the expansion of the sugarcane industry in the state of Goiás. The development of the study is based on a qualitative approach, anchored in the research literature and public documents. It is concluded that the complex sugar cane causes different environmental problems and social impacts in the counties where the agricultural industries are installed.
