Abstract

The Cerrado biome, particularly in Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul states, it is having one process of expansion of sugarcane monoculture since last years of XX century, but intensified since 2007.The aim of this paper is to present one evaluation of the expansion areas mainly Goiás state´s South Region and its microregions Meia Ponte and Quirinópolis, bys study of land use changes focusing the substitution of cultures and livestock areas. In conclusion the spatially axes of sugarcane expansion is the same of agricultural frontier from 70s and the environmental direct and indirect impacts was not sufficiently studied in detailed scales.
