Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors, otherwise explain in Comments to the Editor.
  • It is important that the file be saved in the native format of the word processor used (e.g. Microsoft Word, BR Office, RTF), and not exceed 2MB.
  • All addresses of Internet pages (URLs) in the text (e.g. http://www.ibict.br) must be activated and ready to click.
  • The text must be in 1.5 space, with font size 12. Use italics instead of underlining (except with URL addresses). Figures and tables must be inserted in the text.
  • The text must follow to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines in the "About the Journal" section.

Author Guidelines

- All texts sent to the journal must be original and written in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French. May also be accepted texts that translate to Portuguese or English international publications of great importance - with the permission of the original(s) author(s).

- The text should be presented with minimum length of 4.000 and maximum 7.000 words, with margins (right, left, top and bottom) of 3 cm in size A-4 (210x297mm), and sent electronically (see the available field website under construction) or on digital media (CD, DVD, etc.). The texts must be write in Word for Windows, using the Times New Roman, size 12, and line spacing of 1,5.

- The header should contain the title in the original language (and subtitle, if any) and translated into two languages (English, French, Spanish or Portuguese, if this is not the original language). In the second line, the name(s) of author(s), and the third, the institution information(s), author(s) postal address and e-mail address. IMPORTANT: since August 2013 journal accepts only articles with a maximum of three (03) authors.

- The text must be accompanied by abstract in the original language and translated into two languages (English, French, Spanish or Portuguese, if this is not the original language), with at maximum 170 words, single-spaced, followed for 4 keywords identifying the contents of the text.

It is recommended to perform the review of article, abstracts and translations with professionals.

- The structure of the text should be divided in parts not numbered and with captions. It is essential to include an introduction and conclusion or concluding remarks.

- Footnotes should not be used for references. This element can be used when absolutely necessary and each note can have up to around 3 lines.

- Citations and references follow the rules of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), which are exemplified at the end of these guidelines.

- The illustrations (figures, tables, pictures, graphics, photos etc.) should be sent in the same body of the file (JPEG, TIF or CDR), in color or black and white. The maximum dimensions, including caption and title, are those of A-4 format and should follow the norms of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) for citation.

 

General Instructions

• The original manuscript will be assessed by the Editorial Board, who may accept, reject, or resubmit the original to the author (s) with suggestions for editorial changes. The manuscript will also be sent to referees, whose names remain in secrecy as well as the name (s) of author (s).

• The Geographical Atelier will turn available the articles, research notes and reviews for consultation and reproduction on your website, with due indication of the requirement to citation the source. The concepts expressed though the papers are the sole responsibility of the author (s), not implying necessarily in agreement of the Editorial Board.

Examples for citations and references in accordance with the Brazilian Technical Standards Association (ABNT)

According to NBR-10520: 2001 APA, the references should be identified in the text (s), with surname (s) of author (s) in capitals, date and page (Silva 1995, p.43) and lowercase when inserted in the sentence: According to Silva (1995, p.43).

If the same author cited has more than one publication in the same year, identify each one by letters (Silva, 1995a, p.35).

Avoid the use of footnotes.

The references (only those cited in the text) should contain the complete text in the final, fully aligned to the left, in alphabetical order, and prepared in accordance with NBR-6023: 2002.

Thesis / Dissertation

SURNAME, Name. Title of thesis / dissertation. Date of publication. Number of pages. Thesis / Dissertation (PhD / MSc in ...) - Institute, University, local defense, defense date.

Event

SURNAME, Name. Title of work. In: EVENT NAME IN ALL CAPS, City, date. Title Proceedings, Proceedings... Place of publication: Publisher, date. Initial and final page.

Textual citations with less than three lines should appear throughout the text, in the same letter (no italics) and among quotation marks.

The textual citations that occupy more than three lines should be separated from the main text, indented, without quotation marks or italics and font sizes smaller than that of the main text. In both cases it should be mentioned the author's surname, year, page.
