Abstract

The Conservations Units (CUs) in urban áreas are established for biodiversity preservation, air quality improvement, water resource protection, and environmental education, among others purposes. This article presents a literature review on CUs in urban areas, focusing on the quantitative analysis of publications and the methodological aspects. The study employed a bibliometric perspective using the strings “environmental protected area* in cities”, manipulated in the R software with the Bibliometrix package and analyzed on the Biblioshiny website. The systematic perspective involved selecting articles that utilized analysis through geographic modeling. The main results revealed 2.874 articles from 1975 to 2023, with constant growth beggining in 2001. The authors with the most publications and the greatest impact are Chinese. Consequently, China is the country with the highest number of articles published articles on the topic. Finally, the study observed the increasing value of using geographic information systems for CUs studies in urban areas.
