Abstract

Fishing is an important theme for Brazilian Geography, considering its different typologies and forms of human relationship with these spaces. The main objective of the article is to understand trends and patterns of Brazilian scientific production on the subject, between 1950 and 2022. Methodologically, a systematic survey of scientific production was carried out from Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar, totaling 303 academic works, based on subthematic approaches, categories, affiliations and regional dynamics. Cartographically, the QGis 3.30 software was used, which revealed as a result a center-periphery logic that is crossed by the marginality of scientific production in the North and Northeast and a centrality in the Southeast and South of the country. Furthermore, this same logic results in the marginalization of scientific production on continental fishing to the detriment of the topic of marine fishing in coastal areas. These results suggest the need for a new research agenda on the subject in Brazil, since new political, economic and environmental challenges emerge from this activity in the Brazilian territory in the 21st century.
