Abstract

The territory conception was developed through the history of geographic thought thus becoming one of its most important analytical tools. In this sense, using this conception plays a crucial role regarding the comprehension of current issues such as the struggle for social rights and conflicts, derived from the clashes of different forms of power. Considering that the results of Gol 1907 flight accident unsettled some matters which have a cultural stamp for the Mebêngôkre indigenous people, in this paper it was shown how does the recognition of rights and immaterial damage compensation had become an achievement for its people and, in extension, for other ethnic groups, becoming a landmark for the indigenous struggle in Brazil.

Keywords: Mebêngôkre. Indigenous Territory. Compensation.
