The text proposes a reinterpretation of the film Narradores de Javé delimited by the theme “the social context and the construction of identity in the sertão of Northeast/Brazil”. It addresses the concept of heritage together with culture and landscape, noting the need to distinguish heritage and heritage-making process; considers identities as an accumulation of mentalities and inventions, and takes the sertão as a complex reality. In dialogue with the narrative, history and memory outlined by the film, it reinforces the multiple aspects of the constellation of concepts arising from its approaches, especially, the importance of seeing a continuum between common sense and scientific knowledge through the intuitive stories of Javé and unveil the meanings of heritage, landscapes, controlled spaces, and invented identities for the Northeast.
