The GO-060 state highway and its influence on the regional economy of Western Goiás

Abstract

Highways play a key role in the formation process of the territory of Goiás. Among the structuring axis of this state, the GO-060 road is the main path of circulation of the West of Goiás and plays an important role in its regional productive system. This work analyzes the formation of this road and seeks to understand its influence on the Western Goiás economy. The methodological procedures were based on bibliographic research, documentary research in official organizations, field work and mapping. Besides playing a crucial role in the territorial fluidity of the west of the state, GO-060 is related to the population growth of the main regional centres, with the expansion of agricultural and livestock production and with the intra and inter-regional trade articulation, especially for products from cattle and milk, connecting the main producing municipalities to the economic centres of the state and the country. This reveals the geographical importance of this road and its role in the regional economy of the West of Goiás.
