Abstract

Based on systemic analysis and integrated studies, this study aims to analyze the applicability of geobiophysical indicators of desertification in the environmental systems of the municipality of Assu, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The theoretical-methodological bases are presented in holistic approach from the landscape elements, passing through the geosystemic theory. Methodologically work came from literature, followed by cartographic production through satellite images and specialized agencies, correction of data, as well for fieldwork to determine the environmental systems and apply geobiofísicos indicators to determine their susceptibility to desertification. The indicators showed that the areas of greatest susceptibility to desertification and greater instability and environmental vulnerability is present in environmental systems called Interplanaltic Depression of the Caico Complex and Residual Crests and Inselbergs.
