Abstract

The processes of territorial dismemberment that we approach in this study are different from the researches worked on this theme. We bring an analysis of the dismemberment projects of the territories of the municipalities of the state of Paraíba between the years 2007 to 2018. They are, in reality, made between municipal managers who fragment small portions of the territory and are concretized through state bills. We consulted official agencies of the state and federal governments in the collection of data for research. The digital page of the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba provided us with the main bills on the subject in question. Among the possible hypotheses about these processes, we emphasize a clear interest in the relocation of a dismembered territory for an annexation to another municipality. The possible consequences that these population relocations may represent the transfer of federal resources, especially the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM), go through the main sources of funds in small Brazilian municipalities.
