Abstract

This study aimed to classify the landscape typologies of the Campos Ferruginosos de Carajás National Park (PNCF). The methodological bases were composed from the Geoecology of Landscapes associated with the Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques. Results showed that topography variation associated with soil types and pasture climate present two major phytophysiognomies: forest and herb, and shrub (canga) formations. Six geoecological subunits were identified and classified in the PNCF: densely forested slopes, dissected plateau with open ombrophilous forest, dissected plateau with dense ombrophilous forest, buriti (Mauritia flexuosa) forested depressions, plateau with rupestrian field (canga couraçada), plateau with grassy Field (canga nodular). Thus, it is possible to conclude that the PNFC comprises geoecological units with diverse singularities and high geodiversity - a rare geosystem that should be better studied in order to unravel its complexities.
