Abstract

This study sought to understand the perception of the agents of public security in the State of Pará regarding the establishment and maintenance of the relationships and cooptation of agents of the penitentiary system as a way of integrating the prisons to external territorial networks of drug trafficking. The hermeneutic and dialectical method was used, under a qualitative approach, with the use of interview data collection techniques, followed by a content analysis of the speeches. As a result, it was identified that the agents of the penitentiary system, by their wide circulation inside and outside the prisons, represent an asset for the trafficking. The forms of their cooptation and action were also exposed, as well as problems related to the selection process used for their hiring.
