Abstract

In the state of Sergipe there are several Catholic Religious Parties, performed by the archdioceses, dioceses, vicariates, parishes, chapels or spontaneously by the people. Those parties express faith, gratitude, reverence and devotion to the patron saint. Among all the parties, the Saint Joseph’s is the most celebrated in the state with the largest number of churches involved. This article intends to discuss the scenery of Saint Joseph’s party in Pedrinhas city, countryside of Sergipe, trying to comprehend its mobilities, permanencies and singularities. This party is considered the most important on the county party calendar. This work was made by local observations, both of the preparation and of the celebration itself, application of questionnaires, interviews with participants and party organizers, and photographic record.
