Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the relationships that the traditional populations, specially the Kalunga community, have established among themselves, their territory and the survival strategies that govern their lives. It seeks to recreate their historical path by taking into consideration the dimension of their traditional knowledge and to reframe their current knowledge related to the cerrado biodiversity in the northeast of Goias. The aim is also to understand how the capitalist way of production has resized their form of appropriation and use of such resources for marketing purposes. Therefore, the eminence of modern biotechnology appears as a decisive factor for environmental capital appreciation. The issue at hand was supported by exploratory field work in the place of study.
