Abstract

The Brazilian Cerrado is rich in biodiversity, then valuing the practices that concern to that is essential. Regarding it, there is the traditional medicine of the “Pastoral da Saúde da Diocese de Goiás” that works with the species of the Cerrado; they use medicinal and phytotherapical plants in their social networks. This activity has an important social role contributing to the attended person, usually from a low-income population. Also, it has been a source of income by the commercialization of products in its local pharmacies. The folk medicine is a way to diminish the pressure on the Cerrado ecosystem by valuing the potential of its flora, besides permitting the practice of a traditional knowledge. Notwithstanding, such initiatives haven?t had support or financial help from any governmental institution and they have shown a lot of difficulties for keeping the activities.
